Superwoman Days

Most days, I feel like I am barely getting by. Between work and birds and puppies, there are times when I don’t remember the last time I did laundry or brushed my hair.

But there are some days where everything goes right. Like some light is shining on me, giving me the energy I need, the focus I have been striving for, all the right pieces for a puzzle come into place.

Today was one of those days. I got all my words done, spent time with the birds, played with Cricket, got outside, had time to read, and not only had time to cook, but actually food prepped for five days in advance (see pictures below).

I like to call these days my “Superwoman Days.” The other days, I guess they are just my “Every-Woman Days.”

And I was sitting here thinking about uploading my pictures of the food I made, thinking… this is a problem. I don’t post pictures of my Every-Woman Days. When I look a mess. When my house looks like a bomb was detonated after a hoard of wild beasts tramped through it. I would venture a guess that most of you don’t do that either. So what do we have? We have social media full of people boasting about their Superwoman Days, making us all feel pretty damn crummy about ourselves. When, well, I would bet my precious writing fingers that these people with the perfect Instagram feeds have days where they stand in their kitchen at 7pm in clothes they haven’t changed all day eating sugar cereal with greasy hair and a pile of laundry in their bathrooms… just like the rest of us.

So, let’s enjoy our Superwoman Days, and praise other women for theirs, but remember that we all have many Every-Woman Days as well.

NOW, about my food below. Yummy, right? The first picture is what I call “Fajita Bowls” which consist of baked bell peppers and red onions, brown rice, black beans, corn, fresh salsa, and a jar of more spicy salsa. Simple, fast, and so good. The second is a simple stir fry (broccoli, zucchini, carrot, green beans, onion, mushroom, bell pepper, brussels sprouts, potato, and spinach). Finally, soup. This one doesn’t look as yummy in a picture as it does in person (stewed tomatoes and veggie broth with water for the stock, carrots, zucchini, green beans, onion, red kidney beans, black beans, and spinach).

Currently Reading: – “Circe” – Madeline Miller

Currently Watching: Bones. I like background noise on when I write. When music isn’t doing it for me, I use old shows that I have seen a lot, so they don’t catch my full attention.

Currently Listening to: “Space Cowboy” – Kacey Musgraves
